With its theme dubbed as “Our Home, Our Pride,” tourism and local officials estimated over 20 thousand people to have gathered and shared the merriment in the newly culminated 49th foundation anniversary celebration here.
Known of its beautiful rivers, friendly people and the towering mountain ranges, foreign, local and visitors arriving from the neighboring regions and other parts of the country flocked in the whole duration of this upland town's six-day festivity that was spotlighted by the Mayor Maria Theresa D. Clement Lapaz, the local tourism officer-designate, said the supposed number was based on the estimated total influx of merrymakers since the festivity’s opening salvo on the 15th, to its culmination on the 20th day of July.
Among those that were laid during the mayor’s public address is the 820 million peso-worth local and national government-funded infrastructure projects, inclusive of the completed, on-going, and to be implemented projects, which aims to suffice and strengthen more the local administration’s I-HEARD (Infrastructure, Health and Nutrition, Education, Agriculture and Tourism, Reforestation and Environment Protection, and the Drug and Crime Prevention) program.
Aside its priority programs on health, nutrition and education through its LGU funded free educational program that has enabled to develop an overall total of 700 tertiary graduates as of the present year, Constantino also stressed a wider approach for the evolution of the local tourism industry in a bid to make Malungon Municipality as an agribusiness-tourism hub in the Davao-SOCCKSARGEN growth corridor.
