Baras Bird Sanctuary: Always An Awesome Experience

Another awesome experience in paradise was the caption of the latest set of pictures I posted
on a popular networking site.I was referring to my latest encounter with birds, thousands of
birdsat the Baras Bird Sanctuary where I along with some friends spent the weekend for the Tacurong City Bird Festival.
Newly-installed signage at Baras Bird Sanctuary.
Going to Baras Bird Sanctuary is always a trip well-spent. Below are some of the reasons why
our recent visit to Baras Bird Sanctuary was another awesome experience:

Seeing thousands of birds in such a small area is amazing
Baras Bird Sanctuary is truly a paradise for nature lovers. Where else in the world can we see thousands of birds which can come and go freely, without going far from the city?
Take a look at the following video taken 50 feet above the grounds.
Uncaged and free. Birds at Baras Bird Sanctuary.
Experienced communing with nature
We pitched tents and spent the night outdoors at Baras Bird Sanctuary. The sounds of birds
were music to our ears from night until the morning, the green scenery and the fresh cool
breeze, who would not love that!

Meeting the man who gave thousands of birds a home
Sir Rey Malana is the owner of the land and caretaker of Baras Bird Sanctuary. I have met him before and it is always great to hear his story of how his 1.3-hectare of black pepper plantation was turned into a home for more than 20,000 of migratory birds. He is really admirable.
Thanks to him we have this one of a kind attraction in Tacurong City.

Visiting this birds' paradise in Tacurong City is always educational
I learned a lot from our recent visit at Baras Bird Sanctuary. Particularly from sir Rey Malana himself, from identification of the various types of birds like herons and egrets and birding.

We were also honored to have met Tinggay Cinco, the president of the Wild Birds Club of the Philippines (WBCP) during our guided tour with Sir Rey Malana. She stressed the value of
helping in the preservation of the environment for us to continuously enjoy what we are
experiencing now in the sanctuary.

"You are very lucky, you need not to go far.." she said referring to the location of the sanctuary which is only 7 kilometers away from the city proper.

The 1st Tacurong City Bird Festival was a fun-filled event
Aside from experiencing the best of nature, bird watching and learning about birds, birding
and preserving the environment, there were other events that we enjoyed during the
Tacurong City Bird Festival. These include the face painting, photo exhibit, origami
making and keyholder painting. Truly an event to look forward next year.
