With its theme dubbed as “Our Home, Our Pride,” tourism and local officials estimated over 20 thousand people to have gathered and shared the merriment in the newly culminated 49th foundation anniversary celebration here.

Known of its beautiful rivers, friendly people and the towering mountain ranges, foreign, local and visitors arriving from the neighboring regions and other parts of the country flocked in the whole duration of this upland town's six-day festivity that was spotlighted by the Mayor Maria Theresa D. Constantino's rendering of her second executive report and inaugural message at the Sunken Arena, on July 20.

Clement Lapaz, the local tourism officer-designate, said the supposed number was based on the estimated total influx of merrymakers since the festivity’s opening salvo on the 15th, to its culmination on the 20th day of July.

Among those that were laid during the mayor’s public address is the 820 million peso-worth local and national government-funded infrastructure projects, inclusive of the completed, on-going, and to be implemented projects, which aims to suffice and strengthen more the local administration’s I-HEARD (Infrastructure, Health and Nutrition, Education, Agriculture and Tourism, Reforestation and Environment Protection, and the Drug and Crime Prevention) program.

Aside its priority programs on health, nutrition and education through its LGU funded free educational program that has enabled to develop an overall total of 700 tertiary graduates as of the present year, Constantino also stressed a wider approach for the evolution of the local tourism industry in a bid to make Malungon Municipality as an agribusiness-tourism hub in the Davao-SOCCKSARGEN growth corridor.

Constantino also makes mention some of the special undertakings that have keyed for Malungon Municipality to rank as the number 26th most competitive town in all of the 1, 486 comprising municipalities in the country, 9th in the whole of Mindanao, and 7th in Region 12. This is for being Nat’l Nutrition Council’s second-year holder of the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) award, SGLG awardee; first municipality to comply the Zero Open Defecation (ZOD) program nationwide, most active LDRRMO quick response team in the whole of Central Mindanao Region, and other highly noted accomplishments that she had able to assume and groomed from the good leadership of her father, nine-year undefeated former local government chief executive, Reynaldo ‘Bong’ Constantino.

Guest of honor

Former municipal tourism officer-turned Sarangani Congressman and later Senator, Hon. Manny D. Pacquiao also gave credence for all the positive changes that the local government have stressed on its effort to uplift the living condition of its masses.

Fresh from his latest win against former WBA welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse in Malaysia, Pacquiao as well gave warm acknowledgement to the local government for rescheduling the affair’s finale, to enable him to be the guest of honor and keynote speaker in the most awaited yearly event.
“No matter where I travel and what I could accomplish, I will always look at Malungon as my home,” said the Senator who looked at the place as his strongest bailiwick ever, even during the time that he was not yet a Congressman of Sarangani.

A voiced compliment that was answered well by the local government who have ever since looked at the Senator as a most reliable official that have had dedicated almost all, for the good of not only fellow Sarangans, but the entire Filipino nation.

With Pacquiao on stage as honored speaker was no less Defense Secretary, Major General Delfin Negrillo Lorenzana, who spilled the beans about his stay as former Army 1002nd Brigade Commander in Camp Hermenegildo Agaab here, and the good LGU-military partnership in maintaining law and order.

Pacquiao, who earlier talked of the Congressional Office billions-worth projects in Sarangani to with, a huge percentage of it goes to Malungon, also speak about the need of unrelenting unity among Sarangans for each of its comprising towns to continually move forward in terms of progress and development.
